How a build works

We cover the dozens of small parts. You send the few that make your board yours.

  1. Request a build

    Send your parts list, pick-and-place file and Gerbers. We check them and reply with your build number and price.

  2. Send your ICs and boards

    We send you a short cart with just your ICs and other non-passive parts, extras included. Ship them and your bare boards to us with your build number on the order.

  3. We check in your kit

    Every package is logged against your build. When the last part arrives and checks out, your kit is complete and your build date is set.

  4. We build and ship

    Assembled, inspected boards come back to you along with any of your parts left over.

There's one number.

Measure your board's width and height, multiply, and multiply again by our rate. That's your price per board.

What to send

Only the parts we don't stock, ready for the machines. The cart we send you takes care of most of this.

  • ICs and other active parts. Chips, transistors, diodes, LEDs, connectors and anything else that isn't a resistor, capacitor, inductor or ferrite bead.
  • On tape or reels. Cut tape is fine as long as it's one continuous strip. Loose parts can't go on the machines.
  • A few extras of each. Machines drop and reject a small number. Your cart already includes them.
  • Moisture-sensitive chips sealed. Leave them in their original sealed bag with the desiccant.
  • Bare boards from your fab. Order them from any board house and ship them straight to us.
  • Your build number on everything. Put it in the order reference or PO field so we can match each package.

Is CopperPCB right for you?

How is my board measured?

Width times height of the board outline, as a rectangle. A round or odd-shaped board is measured by the smallest rectangle it fits in.

What counts as a passive?

Resistors, capacitors, inductors and ferrite beads in 0402 and larger. Those come from our stock. Everything else, including ICs, transistors, diodes, LEDs and connectors, you send us.

What if a passive needs a specific part number?

Mark it on your parts list when you request a build. We'll confirm whether we stock it or whether you should add it to your cart.

Can you place 0201 or smaller parts?

No. The smallest part we place is 0402.

What if a part is missing or wrong when my kit arrives?

We tell you the same day we find it, with exactly what's short. Your build date is set once the kit is complete, so nothing starts until everything is here.

What happens to leftover parts?

Any of your parts left over ship back with your boards.

How long does a build take?

Your build date is set the day your kit is complete, and we confirm it by email.

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes. Ask when you request your build and we'll send one before you send files.
